TV Installation Above a Fireplace with Hidden Cables in Plantation, FL

This Plantation, FL project called for a TV installation above a fireplace with hidden cables — mounted flush to the wall above the firebox with no cord visible on either side of the TV.

Chase or solid masonry — checking what's behind the wall first

Not every fireplace wall in Plantation is built the same way. Homes from the 70s through 90s often have a wood-framed fireplace wall with a stud chase running from a component shelf up to the mantel — an open path we can fish cable through. Older brick or block chimneys, and some updated stone or tile surrounds, are solid masonry with no cavity behind the finish at all. Before committing to a plan, we check the wall at an outlet or vent opening near the fireplace to see which one we're dealing with — it changes the entire cable route.

When there's no cavity: a finish-matched surface path

If the surround is solid masonry, we're not fishing cable through it — coring into brick or block near a flue isn't something we do just to save a cord from view. Instead, the cable runs in a low-profile raceway or cord cover mounted flush along the edge of the surround, or tucked under the mantel where it's out of the sightline from typical seating. The cover gets painted or finish-matched to the surround material so it reads as a shadow line at the edge of the fireplace rather than a visible cord.

Cable rated for what's actually near it

Whichever path we use, that cable is sharing wall space with a heat source, so it isn't treated the same as a cable run behind a TV on a plain interior wall. We keep the cable jacket and any connectors clear of the firebox opening and flue area, and we hold to standard heat-clearance spacing for the mount itself before running anything through or past that zone.

The result: a TV mounted flush above the fireplace with a cable path chosen to match how the wall is actually built — fished through a chase where one exists, or routed in a finish-matched cover where the surround is solid masonry — with nothing left dangling in view.
